How to protect your car from strong sunlight in summer

Published on July 25th, 2025

Summer is here, the sun shines bright — and your car feels it (or rather, your paintwork does!). High temperatures, intense UV rays, and prolonged exposure can cause stains, dry out plastics and rubber, fade the paint, and even damage the interior of the vehicle.

The good news is that with a few simple precautions, you can avoid unnecessary damage and keep your car looking great for much longer. Want to know how? Check out these tips:

1. Park in the Shade Whenever Possible

It might sound obvious, but it’s the first step to prevent overheating. If there’s no covered parking, try to park under trees or buildings. This reduces direct sun exposure and protects both the paint and the car’s interior.

Extra tip: If you need to park on the street for a long time, try to move the car during the day to follow the moving shade.

2. Use Sunshades and Window Tint

Windshield sunshades reflect sunlight, lowering the interior temperature and protecting the dashboard, steering wheel, and seats from cracking and fading.

Window tints can block up to 99% of UV rays, in addition to improving the car’s interior climate. Just don’t forget to check your local laws for allowed tint levels.

3. Clean and Condition Plastics and Leather

Excessive heat dries out interior surfaces, causing cracks in leather seats, dashboards, and door panels. Use specific cleaners and automotive conditioners to maintain flexibility and shine — like Sintra and Intense for plastics, and Higicouro and Hidracouro for leather areas like the seats.

4. Protect the Paint with Wax or Sealant

Strong sun accelerates paint oxidation. To create a barrier against UV rays, pollution, and acid rain, regularly apply a high-quality wax or synthetic sealant. Besides protecting, the shine looks flawless!’

Bonus tip: Waxes containing SiO₂ (silica) increase the durability of protection, forming a hydrophobic shield that makes cleaning easier. A great example is Blend Vonixx, which combines SiO₂ and Type 1 Carnauba in its formula, providing both protection and brilliant shine to your car’s paint.

5. Check Tire Pressure and Fluids

In the heat, tire pressure can increase and affect drivability. Check the tire pressure weekly, as well as radiator water, coolant levels, and oil. These small checks can make all the difference in avoiding breakdowns caused by overheating.

Conclusion

Taking care of your car in the summer isn’t overkill — it’s an investment that saves you money on future repairs and keeps your vehicle looking great and maintaining its value. With shade, protection, conditioning, and regular maintenance, you can face the strong summer sun without worry!
