What is the difference between technical and commercial polishing?

Published on May 10th, 2024

Car polishing is an essential part of your vehicle’s maintenance. Not only does it improve your car’s appearance, but it also helps protect the paintwork and increase resale value.

In this article, we’ll explore the differences between technical and commercial polishing.

What is Technical Polishing?

Technical polishing is a detailed process that aims to restore the vehicle’s original paintwork.

It is mainly used when the car’s paintwork is damaged or worn. Technical polishing removes surface and deep scratches, oxidation and other paint defects.

The benefits of technical polishing include a brighter appearance for the vehicle’s paintwork.

What is Commercial Polishing?

Commercial polishing, on the other hand, is a faster and less intensive process. It is mainly used to give the car a quick shine and improve the overall appearance.

Although commercial polish may not be able to correct deeper paint defects, it can give your car a fresh, clean shine.

Which products to use for technical and commercial polishing?

Now that you know the difference between each type of polishing, here’s a list of Vonixx products for use in technical and commercial polishing.

Technical Polishing Products

Hard varnishes:

  • V-Cut: This cutting polisher from the VHP System is capable of removing scratches and severe defects from paintwork
  • V-Polish: Also part of the VHP System, it is a refining polish that removes beret marks and holograms, leaving the surface with an intense shine.
  • V-Finish: A high-performance polish that is part of the VHP System (Vonixx Hybrid Polish). It is ideal for the polishing stage, providing a flawless finish.

Soft varnishes:

  • V10: Used in the cutting and polishing stage to completely remove scratches from P1.200 to P1.500 grit sandpaper, it eliminates deep scratches and oxidation on neglected paintwork.
  • V20: Used in the refining stage during automotive polishing to remove P.2000 to P.2500 grit sandpaper marks or scratches of the same size, marks from the cutting stage and micro-scratches, with an excellent finish and shine.
  • V30: polishing compound from the Asian line, used to remove holograms and surface marks during the polishing stage, providing an intense, deep shine.

Commercial Polishing Products

  • V40: A 4-in-1 polish developed for use on soft varnishes. Its exclusive formula allows it to be used in all three stages of polishing, by changing berets, promoting light protection of the carnauba wax.
  • Blend All In One: This is a single-step polish with protection, which combines the shine of carnauba and the ceramic resistance of SiO2, while also promoting water repellence on the paintwork.

The choice between the two, as well as the choice of product to use, depends on your needs and the current state of your car’s paintwork.
